Unlocking the Power of Consumer Health for Climate Action | UNGA80

During the 80th United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week, I was pleased to engage and share my Wellbeing Foundation Africa learnings in the executive roundtable Unlocking the Power of Consumer Health for Climate Action, convened at the Empire State Building by Bayer, Diplomatic Courier, and Forum For The Future, yesterday.

This high-level dialogue examined the indivisibility of planetary and human health, affirming that the climate crisis is not a distant environmental phenomenon but an immediate public health emergency. At its centre lies consumer health, the daily practices of self-care, prevention, and health literacy that touch billions of lives. Properly harnessed, these practices are not merely private choices but collective levers that can accelerate prevention-based health systems, strengthen resilience, and deliver climate co-benefits.

Systemic transformation, however, cannot be achieved by any one actor alone. It will require governments, businesses, and civil society aligning incentives, scaling proven innovations, and embracing emerging mechanisms such as the Climate & Health Toolkit and Health Impact Credits to embed accountability and accelerate progress.
