At the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Science Summit 2025, during the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week, I was privileged to contribute to the fireside dialogue Women at the Frontlines: Midwifery and Community-Based Care That Changes Outcomes, convened by the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) and the Global Health Connector (formally ECHAlliance).
In my reflections, I shared the two decade journey of my Wellbeing Foundation Africa, and highlighted that enabling and integrating midwives within primary care is one of the most cost-effective and transformative investments in women’s health, as it improves outcomes for mothers and newborns, strengthens trust in health systems, and anchors prevention and preparedness at the community level.
I extend my sincere thanks to Dr. Irene O. Aninye for her thoughtful moderation and acknowledge the Summit’s convening coalition, including the International Science Council, AERAP, and its scientific, philanthropic, and industry partners, for creating a platform where evidence, lived experience, and policy intersect to advance the Sustainable Development Goals.
