On the sidelines of UNGA 80, I was pleased to attend the launch of the Resilient Cities, Reimagining Health – Case for Action, at the Yale Club, New York City, convened by the Resilient Cities Network, the Sustainable Markets Initiative, Reckitt, and the Yale School of Public Health.
This important initiative, already active in 29 cities across 19 countries, including Lagos, Nigeria, highlights the evidence that climate action is health action. By addressing climate-related health risks through proven interventions, cities can reduce emissions, improve equity, and strengthen the resilience of health systems worldwide; these themes were further explored during a productive bilateral meeting with Rob Sobhani.
The Wellbeing Foundation Africa and I welcome this global framework and the opportunity to contribute to advancing climate and health solutions that prioritise prevention, resilience, and justice, particularly for vulnerable urban populations in the Global South.
It was a vibrant afternoon at the Yale Club, where I was also delighted to join the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation gathering, graced by the presence of Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, as Nigeria advances its vision of cultivating world-class scholars to strengthen the nation’s future.
