Protect Education and Literacy

Inclusive, equitable and quality education is a human right which must be protected.

On this International Day to Protect Education from Attack, and as International #LiteracyDay took place yesterday, I am highlighting the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity, and education to be safeguarded particularly for children and youth in conflict zones who remain among the most vulnerable.

The Wellbeing Foundation Africa aims to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #SDG 4, and Safe School Declaration to secure a sustainable future and create a healthy society by implementing #frontline intervention through our Adolescent #PSHE #WASH programming which emphasises the role schools play in providing a safe space for children, where they can be protected from threats and crises, from conflict to health.

Education and literacy are essential skills that save lives. Governments, private sector agencies, and humanitarian organisations must partner to provide secure and feasible measures to ensure access to safe education is rarely impeded. Only then can these transformed literacy learning spaces begin to break the cycle of inequality, hostility and poverty.
