The Power of Culture, Creativity, and Collective Progress in Africa

This week, I had the pleasure of welcoming Bonita Mutoni, Co-Founder of Global Events Africa and Managing Director of Tatler Africa, for a courtesy visit. Our conversation centred on the exciting expansion of Tatler into Africa and its strategic partnership with Global Citizen through Move Afrika, a collaboration set to transform Africa’s cultural and creative industries by bridging the worlds of entertainment, music, and economic empowerment.

Move Afrika’s pioneering world-class music touring circuit across the continent seeks to address global inequities by creating job and entrepreneurship opportunities for Africa’s emerging generations through annual live music events designed to highlight the best of African talent to the world, driving transformative investments within local communities and providing on-the-job skill development and training.

The partnership and foray of Tatler into Africa were marked by an exclusive event in Lagos at Alara, where the 2026 Tatler Best of Africa Awards were unveiled, while this week, the landmark debut of Move Afrika Lagos took centre stage at The Palms, delivering an electrifying night of performances, including a headline set by EGOT-winner John Legend. With 90% of the crew and 95% of the equipment sourced locally, Move Afrika Lagos demonstrated Nigeria’s capacity to deliver world-class productions while empowering local communities.

I was honoured to be virtually featured during Move Afrika Lagos, where my address as part of the Global Citizen Stride for HER Rights Walkathon was showcased in championing Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health as a national priority. Tatler’s expansion into Africa and its collaboration with Global Citizen through Move Afrika represent a bold vision for the continent, one that uplifts African talent, creates new economic pathways, and fosters global connections.

I and the Wellbeing Foundation Africa look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead and to further collaborations that continue to showcase the innovation and influence of Africa on the world stage as we envision a world free from extreme poverty, where everyone has an equal chance to thrive.
