The Wellbeing Foundation Africa is honoured to be at the forefront of pioneering frontline responses to Nigeria’s maternal, newborn, and child health crisis, a mission thoughtfully highlighted by Global Citizen in their recent reporting, which we warmly welcome as we remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring that every mother and every child not only survives, but truly thrives.
In their first feature, “Nigeria’s Maternal Health Crisis: How Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) is Making a Difference,” Global Citizen emphasises the gravity of Nigeria’s maternal mortality burden, where nearly 20% of global maternal deaths occur, and the tangible, life-saving impact of community-based antenatal and postnatal education, digital midwifery, and mental health support, as delivered by WBFA across seven states, through our flagship #MamaCare360 programme, and the dedication of our highly trained WBFA midwives, nurses, and healthcare workers, who are creating a future where giving life never costs a woman her own.
In the second piece, “The Silent Struggle: MamaCare360 Pushes to Prioritize Maternal Mental Health in Nigeria,” Global Citizen brings long-overdue attention to the mental health needs of women before, during, and after childbirth, as WBFA advances our mission to integrate respectful, dignified care and perinatal mental health support into every layer of maternal healthcare; by challenging stigma, strengthening early screening and response systems, and ensuring that every mother is met with compassion, care, and clinical excellence, laying the foundation for generational wellbeing.
As Nigeria continues to navigate complex health system challenges, our work at WBFA reaffirms that community-centred, women-led innovations are not only possible, they are essential. We will continue to implement and advocate for the policies, partnerships, and investments that place women and newborns at the heart of development, and ensure that every mother and child survives, thrives, and is supported, body, mind, and soul.
We invite you to read these articles and join us in amplifying the call for maternal health justice.
