Yesterday, I was pleased to provide a keynote partners remark and commitment at the Global Activators Network on Maternal Health Workshop in Abuja, convened by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health & Social Welfare’s MAMII Sector Wide Approach Units (SWAP), and championed by Ferring Safe Birth.
Joined by my Wellbeing Foundation Africa’s Abuja Team, and in my capacity as a World Economic Forum Champion of the Global Alliance for Women’s Health, I shared direct programmatic, advocacy, and policy insights on my and the Wellbeing Foundation Africa’s role in advancing maternal health and strengthening the response to maternal and neonatal mortality.
In my Keynote Address, I commended Nigeria’s pioneer position as the first country to commit to the Global Activators Network on Maternal Health, reaffirming its leadership in addressing maternal health challenges. This commitment was formalised through a strategic agreement signed between H.E. Dr Muhammad Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health & Social Welfare, and WEF Managing Director, Mr Jeremy Jurgens, reinforcing Nigeria’s role as a driver of sustainable interventions, strategic partnerships, and the global exchange of knowledge and best practices.
By strengthening country-level ecosystems, Nigeria’s engagement with the Alliance will harness existing expertise, address systemic challenges, and accelerate progress in maternal, newborn and child health, ensuring every woman and their child has access to high-quality, lifesaving care.
The workshop served as a catalyst for impactful solutions, deepening multi-sectoral collaboration and policy alignment, as the Wellbeing Foundation Africa remains steadfast in our dedication to these efforts, continuing to lead frontline programming and advocacy, implement innovative #MNCH interventions, and champion policy reforms that secure long-term progress.
