Today at the United Nations House in Abuja, I was honoured to formally witness the signing of a landmark partnership between the World Health Organization Nigeria and the TY Danjuma Foundation, a pivotal step forward in strengthening Nigeria’s primary health care systems and advancing sustainable domestic health financing.
As Inaugural Global Health Ambassador for the WHO Foundation and Special Advisor to the World Health Organization Africa Region, I welcome this timely collaboration as a demonstration of what can be achieved when national leadership, philanthropic commitment, and global expertise come together to deliver resilient, equitable health systems.
The Wellbeing Foundation Africa has long championed the importance of aligning domestic resources with frontline priorities. This partnership echoes that mission, with an intentional focus on maternal, newborn, and child health, community-based care, and data-driven accountability.
I commend the leadership of Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo and the WHO Nigeria Country Office in convening this impactful collaboration, and congratulate Gloria Danjuma Atta, TYDF Chair, the entire Board of Trustees, and the CEO of the TY Danjuma Foundation, under the vision of Lt. Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma GCON (RTD), for their strategic investment in Nigeria’s health future.
As Nigeria advances towards Universal Health Coverage, this partnership will stand as a model for how local solutions, supported by trusted institutions, can drive national transformation.
