Cooperation & Collaboration

As I reflect on the week’s deliberations, it is an opportune moment to express my appreciation for the cooperation and collaboration of longstanding partners and allies of the Wellbeing Foundation Africa, as we dive deeper into marshalling resources and co-creating programming methodologies to support the Maternal Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiatives (MAMII) strategy.

Nigeria’s approach to crashing maternal mortality through MAMII presents a comprehensive, multi-sectoral framework with clearly defined stakeholder roles and responsibilities. Our shared focus now shifts towards delivering intensive, tailored interventions across the 172 local government areas with the highest burden of maternal and newborn mortality, while simultaneously strengthening sector-wide systems to enhance access, availability, affordability, and financial protection for maternal healthcare services nationwide.

It remains a privilege to work alongside partners such as Dr Dayo Adeyanju, whose leadership at MAMII has been instrumental in shaping a unified national response; Dr Joan Benson of Merck MSD for Mothers, who engages global public health immunisation; Dr Franka Cadée of Maternity Foundation, bringing midwifery expertise and digital innovation; Charlotte Ersbøll of Ferring Safe Births Initiative Ferring Pharmaceuticals, driving progress in postpartum haemorrhage prevention and care; and the World Health Organization Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH), which plays a vital role in fostering collaboration.

We are equally grateful to our conveners at the World Economic Forum and Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare Nigeria, as well as institutional partners such as the World Bank, for creating a platform that strengthens these essential dialogues. The Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) will continue to co-create evidence-based, context-specific on the ground solutions, delivered through our WBFA frontliners and supported by dedicated Monitoring & Evaluation specialists, which prioritise equity, quality, and continuity of care in maternity services for every woman, everywhere.
