Strengthening Partnerships for Change: Advancing Neonatal Care and Maternal Health with SCIDaR and Project Oscar Light For Life

I was delighted to receive a Courtesy Call Visit from Dr Daniel Adeniyi of the Solina Centre for International Development and Research – SCIDaR to the Wellbeing Foundation Africa Lagos Mission on MaternalMonday yesterday.

In my remarks, I noted that SCIDaR’s commitment to accelerating positive health, social, and economic reforms through high-quality program design and implementation, capacity building, and scientific research aligns seamlessly with our mission, especially as we work towards the Reckitt social impact supported Project Oscar Light for Life.

I deeply value the impactful work SCIDaR has undertaken, particularly in advancing maternal, newborn and child health, which I first encountered on the Smiles For Mothers heat-stable carbetocin program advocacy to stem the tide of postpartum haemorrhage in Nigeria.

The Wellbeing Foundation Africa is privileged to marshal the potency of collaboration and innovation as we integrate SCIDaR’s expertise as a dedicated primary health implementation partner on WBFA’s 2024-2026 Project Oscar Light For Life Neonatal Jaundice Screening Treatment and Kernicterus Prevention Program to train over 300 healthcare workers, screen over 9,000 newborns and educate 10,000 mothers in Lagos State on the early detection and management of neonatal jaundice.

These efforts will be instrumental in preventing disabilities and saving lives, alongside the intrinsic Project Oscar Light For Life donation of essential equipment to healthcare facilities, highlighting our joint commitment to sustainable neonatal care across Nigeria as we explore avenues for deeper collaboration to improve health and social outcomes through effective program implementation, capacity building and dissemination of insights from rigorous research for policy changes.
